Passively cooled Delta-Mikrotik1-i3 server is an interesting application for routers from the Cloud Core family. The device is equipped with a processor 7th generation Intel Core i3-7100T 3.40GHz produced in 14 nm lithography. The cooling of the central unit is carried out with the use of an aluminum cooling block contacting the processor, which, through the use of copper heat pipes, is in contact with the housing part (through the milled grooves) thereby transferring the heat to the environment.
Presented server Delta-MikroTik1-i3 in addition to the low-voltage processor 7th generation Intel i3-7100T 3.40GHz has a removable memory low-voltage SODIMM DDR4 1.2V (up to 32GB RAM) and a fast solid state drive (SSD) with interface. Height 1U (44.45mm) Rack 19" and a small depth of 278mm allows you to mount the computer in 300mm cabinets.
The Delta-MikroTik1-i3 server has a total of six Ethernet ports, of which there are five interfaces supported by the Mikrotik system - the Realtek RTL8111G / H network systems. From version 7.x, the introduction of support for new Intel chipsets is announced. Systems at the hardware level have been equipped with the LANGuard system that includes signal paring technology and protects against static electrostatic discharges up to 15kV (traditional unprotected systems withstand about 6kV). The high quality capacitors used are surface mounted (SMD) for reliable connection and higher bandwidth.
Presented computer is equipped with a double pocket type Hot-Swap - in the upper bay there is a silent hard disk working in Solid-State Drive (SSD) technology. The server does not have active cooling elements, which is its undeniable advantage. Thanks to the elimination of moving mechanical parts, long-lasting operation is ensured without the need for maintenance, cleaning or the replacement of fans with new ones. The high efficiency of the cooling block allows the computer to be used in 19 "Rack cabinets, even with high density of mounted devices, an important element worth paying attention to: the housing construction made in the form of an aluminum casting subsequently machined and anodised.
As it is commonly known, when you attempt to install MikrotTik in AHCI mode, the error "No CD-ROM found ..." appears. Thanks to the development of its own method, the RouterOS system is installed on the SSD (optional type of licenses: Level 4, 5 or 6), despite the lack of IDE support by the motherboard. After starting the system, you can go to remote RouterOS configuration via Winbox.
The Delta-MikroTik1-i3 server is equipped with the automatic power-on function activated in the BIOS (the operating system with applications will start automatically) and the ability to wake up via a LAN (Wake on LAN).
The powerful Core i3-7100T processor with reduced TDP 35W makes the server suitable for installing free distributions for network traffic management, such as: pfSense, FreeNAS or Openmediavault. Of course, nothing prevents you from installing another preferred system (eg Debian, Ubuntu Server or FreeBSD).
The set includes an external AC / DC power supply 19V 4,74A. It is also possible to power the server from a 12V buffer power supply - this solution is very often found instead of UPS.
The described computer is adapted to work in the temperature range of 0˚C - 39˚C.
