Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2019 Entry is a continuation of the earlier Embedded version designed mainly for installation on devices used in industry and technology. A specially designed system ensures security and stability in the operation of programs serving, among others, to control production or manage key processes. Windows IoT LTSC 2019 is a binary equivalent of the Enterprise version. So it is possible to use the same applications as in the case of Windows 10 Home / Professional. The advantage of the IoT version is significantly lower hardware requirements. In short, it can be said that Windows 10 IoT is a combination of the Enterprise version with the so-called embedded features.
Windows 10 IoT does not have Store, Cortana, Edge, Outlook Mail or Outlook Calendar applications. Therefore, unnecessary processes that slow down key programs are not triggered. In addition, system games have been removed. The operating system works much more efficiently even with a small amount of memory. There is also a special version of Windows 10 IoT that allows installation on computers equipped with only 2GB of RAM.
In the case of the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC version, only security updates are installed online (via Windows Update). This is important issue in a situation when a computer deprived of access to the Internet for a long time at the moment of connecting to the network starts to download many patches at the same time. Simultaneous installation of updates very often results in errors and the need for many reboots. An additional advantage of the IoT Enterprise LTSC version is the ability to deactivate automatic updates. It often happens that the engineer responsible for the operation of the application is looking for such functionality - the stability of the entire system is the most important.
Another unquestionable advantage is the length of the support period, which is 5 years from the date of the premiere (starting from 2018) and the availability of the system (end of year 2028). The above-mentioned advantages are of considerable importance in the implementation of long-term projects for the supply of equipment.
